1. During Mr Stratton's last visit to the Caribbean, a Governor's wife complained that if her husband was to die in office she would get no pension. Mr Stratton asked that the position be looked into.
Categories of Governors
DS or HCS seconded officers;
(ii)
HMOCS or DS or HCS officers who transfer to the Governors' Pension Scheme;
(iii)
(iv) (v)
ex HMOCS officers (ie contract officers); MOD officers (Gibraltar);

Death Benefits under the Governors' Pension Act (Scheme)

Allocation. A Governor who is granted a pension (category 2(ii) above) may allocate part of pension in favour of spouse or dependent.
Gratuity. If a Governor dies whilst serving as a Governor the widow may be granted a gratuity not exceeding the equivalent of the deceased's final pensionable emoluments, less the amount of any award made by the overseas territory. (the maximum award cannot exceed the equivalent of the annual salary of the PUS) This death award applies to Governors in category 2(ii) above.
Widows and Orphans Pensions Schemes

DS or HCS officers seconded as Governors can continue to contribute to PSCPS Widows Scheme (category 2(i) above).
DS or HCS officers who transfer to the Governors' Pension Scheme cannot continue to contribute to PSCPS Widows' Scheme. (category 2(ii) above). However, if ultimately their service is aggregated and paid under PSCPS the period of Governor's service would be covered by deduction of contributions to the PSCPS Widows' Scheme from lump sum.
(iii) HMOCS officers. Formerly the general policy was for
most officers to progress through the Colonial service to Governorships. Continuing widows cover was provided for under the terms of previous colonial territory's
