To relieve overcrowding at Stanley.

To relieve overcrowding in Training Centres.

To relieve overcrowding at Victoria.

To modernise the prison.

Progress made and present position

Public Works Item 53PR was upgraded to Cat. A at the PIP Second Review, 1976. The prison is designed to hold 400 prisoners in conditions of maximum security. Extimated completion date is mid-1980.

New Training Centre designed for 250 inmates. Construction commenced August, 1976. Staffing proposals have been submitted to F.B.

Construction work going ahead on schedule. Estimated com-

pletion date August, 1977. Staffing proposals submitted to F.B. by department.

PD has prepared a draft scheme for the phased redevelopment of the main gate lodge/admin complex, workshops, water supply and sowage disposal systems. Pro- posals are under study in PVD.

Agreement on staff require- ment and preparation of ESC paper. For suumission in early December.
