ADMINISTRATION IN CONFIDENCE

5.

Files and unentered papers are being retained by some Desk Officers. If files are not in use, the correct place for them is in the Registry. Papers for registration should be sent to the Registry as soon as possible after receipt, otherwise they cannot be registered in chronological order. The Registry service - and consequently the Depart- ment itself is bound to suffer if papers and files are retained in the Department.

WEEDING

6. The weeding of 1974 files is in progress.

LIAISON

7. Mr D F Milton, the Liaison Officer, is reasonably satisfied with the Registry service.

SECURITY

8. The Head of Registry has the custody of the few TOP SECRET files held. They are kept in a combination lock cupboard. Locking up and checking arrangements are satisfactory. The distribution of telegrams is carried out in the Department.

INTEGRATION

9.

It would be possible to integrate this Registry, given suitable accommodation.
