33. On 2nd July, 1976, Chinese male CHIU Kwok-wai (6392/0948/1414) was searched by Pre- ventive Service officers following his arrival at Hong Kong from Singapore by m.v. 'Tai Poo Shek', resulting in the seizure of 1.852 kilogrammes of prepared opium found on his person. A search of CHIU's cabin revealed a further 4.569 kilogrammes of prepared opium in a locker and under a bunk. The other occupants of the cabin, Chinese males LAI Siu-chung (7812/4801/1350) and Pun Kai-cheuk (3382/1367/3625) were also arrested. All three were jointly charged with Trafficking In A Dangerous Drug, and CHIU was charged with an additional count of Trafficking In A Dangerous Drug is respect of the opium which he was carrying at the time of his arrest. CHIU was sentenced to 34 years' imprisonment on each charge, sentences to run concurrently. LAI and Pun were each sentenced to 31 years' imprisonment.

34. A further search of the vessel resulted in the discovery of 2.87 kilogrammes of prepared opium in a canvas 'smuggling vest' inside a deck store. No arrest was made in connection with this

seizure.

35. On 22nd July, 1976, Chinese female LIN Lan-heung (6647/5695/7449) arrived at Hong Kong Airport from Bangkok. A body search by Preventive Service officers revealed 4 packets con- taining a total of 565 grammes of prepared opium concealed inside her shoes. The keys inside her purse were found to fit an unclaimed suitcase in the Baggage Reclaim Hall. As a result of examination, 1.2865 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 0.7396 kilogramme of salts of esters of morphine was found inside the false bottom of the suitcase. LIN was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Trafficking In A Dangerous Drug. She was sentenced to 9 months' imprisonment and fined HK$2,000.
