55. On the afternoon of 11th February, 1976, following an extended period of surveillance, Narcotics Bureau officers intercepted a private car in Kwai Chau St., Kowloon. A search of the car revealed 2 plastic bags containing a total of 3 packages of raw opium. Two Chinese females inside the car, CHAN Man-wah (7115/2581/5478) and LEE Siu-han (2621/1421/1288) were arrested. Immediately afterwards, the officers conducted a raid at a nearby residential flat in To Kwa Wan Rd., resulting in the discovery of a further 61 packages of raw opium and 10 blocks of '999' brand morphine. The occupant of the cubicle in which the drugs were found, Chinese male CHENG Tak-lung (6774/ 1795/7127) and his mother, Chinese female CHEUNG Yuk-ying (1723/3768/5391) were arrested in connection with the seizure.
56. The total drugs seized from the car and the flat comprised 139.17 kilogrammes of raw opium and 13.6165 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 10.8228 kilogrammes of a salt of morphine. All defendants were charged with Conspiracy To Traffic In A Dangerous Drug and Possession Of Dangerous Drugs For The Purpose Of Unlawful Trafficking. LEE was released following committal proceedings. CHEUNG and CHAN pleaded guilty at their trial and were sentenced to 12 and 6 years' imprisonment respectively. No evidence was offered against CHENG and he was acquitted.
