Reaction from the Police Force themselves
some officers
felt that the morale and efficiency of the Force should be improved now that the CP had the power to sack any irresponsible and inefficient officers; other were unhappy because they felt that the Amnesty had presumed as a fact that all Police were corrupt. Many new recruits who had been unhappy at the beginning because of the bad morale of the Force at large, felt that the Monday Statemen should have helped to reinstate the Force and its standing.
12. While the merits/demerits of the Amnesty remained to be
seen, some members of the public felt that the work of ICAC would be made easier now with concentration being placed on corruption cases after January 1977 and other big offences. However, most of the public believed that ICAC morale had greatly suffered although not completely
shattered.
