You told us that sometimes stalls asked for a reduction?

Yes.

Proprietors say they were raided very often and customers

reduced?

Yes.

You also said Tai Kau Lau would go and make inquiries about this and you sometimes would go and listen?

Yes.

What would Mr. Lau say on occasions like these?

Sometimes Lau would tell the boss that in fact business of

stalls were not poor and our boss would refuse application

for reduction.

In what way would he say business was not poor?

After he had returned from visiting the stalls he said there

wore still many customers business was not very poor.

You mean he would go on a sort of reconnaissance and count

the number of customers?

Yes. He would sit there or walk about inside and look.

And he would go and report that business was quite good?

Yes.

And decision would come down and no reduction?
