little over $2000 a day. When I went to Kong Chan's place I knew that for the 2 stalls operated by Kong Chan, the one in Lido liansion and the one at 369 Restaurant the amounts paid for both were $4000 a day. There were people staying overnight at Hung Fook Building. Ma Hak Shing had instructed Hung Chai and Tai Kau Lau to stay overnight by rotation that

is alternately. Sometimes when stalls were raided it is for these 2

persons to go out and warm the stalls. At the beginning there was a

Fatty Lam who stayed there for several months but later he left. The

flat at Hung Fook Building was rented by the predecessors Yin Chai and

Ah Cheng and then we took over. I knew Yin Chai and Ah Cheng. Ma Hak

Shing himself rented the premises in Electric Road. I am not sure whether he paid the rent himself or other persons paid it on his instructions. About a month after I went to Causeway Bay I went to

premises at Electric Road. Ma Hak Shing informed me of the addresses.

In one month, when all the stalls were in operation the amount collected

would be a little over $400000 per month. About $300000 odd would be

from Causeway Bay area, the other money would come from Shaukiwan.

Apart from Cheng Pak, in Electric Road premises I could meet Ma Hak

Shing, a cook and an attendant. Cheng Pak kept records of the money received. Cheng Pak kept a small loose-leaf notebook. Whenever I

handed him money he would note in that notebook and he also kept another

notebook himself. Tai Kau Lau would keep record on sheet of paper he gave the paper to me and I handed it to Cheng Pak. Piece of paper would

be given to me on each occasion when he paid, writing down where the money

had come from. Ma Hak Shing paid me about $3000 per month. Usually he himself paid me. Hung Chai and Ah Lau were each given $2000. Sometimes

they were paid through me. I believe that Cheng Pak was paid and I

believe in the same amount as I. I did this work in Causeway Bay area

for about a year. Ma Hak Shing retired and I stopped working for him

in March 1973. The flat at Hung Fook Building was taken over by Tai

Ngan Chai and others one of them was called Chu Yan Chai, one called

Fung something Leung who had been proprietor of Tung Wan Kok Restaurant.

He had run away. I don't know what Tai Ngan Chai's business was.
