RESUMPTION OF UNDERGROUND STRATA AT STUBBS ROAD AND TUNG SHAN TERRACE FOR ABERDEEN TUNNEL
The Aberdeen Tunnel will provide a quick and effective road link between the north and south of Hong Kong Island and will also be linked to the Cross Harbour Tunnel road net work by the Canal Road Flyover Extension. Both the tunnel and the flyover extension are now under construction.
2
As the tunnel will pass through underground strata of leased land in the vicinity of Stubbs Road and Tung Shan Terrace, it will be. necessary to extinguish existing private rights in these strata. Resumption of the strata is therefore proposed. The fourteen lots shown shaded pink on the plan at Annex A and listed and described in Annex B are affected. Funds are available in the project vote to enable any compensation claims to be met. It appears unlikely, however, that any such claim will be received.
3
The tunnel where it passes through the underground strata of the lots affected will not be at a height greater than 38 metres above Principal Datum, or lower than 9 metres above Principal Datum. No surface platform on the affected lots is less than 88 metres above Principal Datum. It is proposed to resume the underground strata of the affected lots between the levels of 9 metres and 38 metres above Principal Datum which provides for a margin of 8 metres around the planned alignment of the tunnel to allow for slight variations in levels, for possible ground supports and ancillary projections which may be necessary and for any other contingencies.
4
Minimum clearance between the highest tunnel working limit and the level of the lots at the surface nearest the tunnel will not be less than 50 metres. While no special engineering problems are expected to affect the lots at the surface or the buildings on them, it will be the responsibility of the Government and the contractor building the tunnel to ensure that precautions are taken if necessary to safeguard the properties during tunnel construction. The leasees of the affected lots will be informed accordingly in a circular letter issued prior to the service of any resumption notice.
