CORRUPTION IN HONG KONG

The Hong Kong Government is fully committed to the
eradication of corruption. The Independent Commission
Against Corruption which was set up in 1974 has had
considerable success in rooting out corruption and in
mobilising popular support for its work. The Commission
should be given every opportunity to fulfil its important
task.
DRUG ADDICTION IN HONG KONG
5. Hong Kong has a considerable problem in this field, but
it is one which the Hong Kong Government are fighting hard
and with some success. There is, for example, encouraging
evidence that the proportion of Hong Kong's young people
taking drugs has been decreasing, as a result of more
effective law enforcement as well as better preventive
education and publicity.

6. It is the policy of Her Majesty's Government, shared
by the Hong Kong Government, that there should be such
progress towards the equitable distribution of wealth in
Hong Kong, as is consistent with Hong Kong's special
circumstances.

7. There has been considerable progress in recent years
and the Hong Kong Government has set itself a target of
achieving a level of legislation roverning safety, health
and conditions of employment at least broadly equivalent to
the best in Asian countries neighbouring Hong Kong whose
stage of economic development and social and cultural
