During January 445 persons (383 adults and 62 juveniles) registered with the Registration of Persons Department, claiming to have entered Hong Kong illegally (compared with 444 last month).

9.

Since 1962, the Registration of Persons Department have registered a total of 314,020 persons who claimed to have entered Hong Kong illegally from various sources, primarily from China. The cumulative total of such registration since January 1968 is 122,857.

Macao

10.

21 illegal immigrants from Macao were referred to this department by the Marine Police. 20 were repatriated and. the remaining case is still being processed.

11.

19 of the illegal immigrants were arrested by the. Police on board two fishing junks at Tsuen Wan on 15th January. 2 snake-heads were arrested and the junks seized. Both snake- heads were convicted and sentenced to 9 and 12 months imprisonment separately, and application will shortly be made for forfeiture of the two junks involved. The entire group was repatriated to lacao at the end of January.
