CHAIRMAN OF URBAN COUNCIL UNVEILS

MODEL OF CULTURAL COMPLEX AT TSIM SHA TSUI

The centrepiece of the Cultural Complex at Tsim Sha Tsui

will be a magnificient building with a soaring roof like the wings

of a giant bird.

The building will incorporate two auditoria with a total

capacity of 3,500 people..

The Complex will add another colourful attraction to Hong

Kong's famous harbour panorama, especially when floodlit at night.

The Standing Committee of the Whole Urban Council this

morning approved the preliminary design of the Complex, done by

architects of the Fublic Works Department.

This afternoon the Chairman of the Council, Mr. A. de O. Sales,

unveiled a model of the Complex, and various sketches and diagrams.

The model illustrates the architects' preliminary design work on

the project.

The Complex is planned for the site now occupied by the

Tsim Sha Tsui railway terminus and part of the railway's running

yards.

It will cover 13.2 acres.

The design is a blend of old and new since it incorporates

the old Tsim Sha Tsui clock tower end several modernistic buildings.

Biggest of these is the dual-auditoria building sweeping

to a height of 185 feet at the end, which curves gently around and

upwards, to face the harbour.
