3.1 FUTURE HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT
Co-incidental with the visit, an address was given by Dr K L Thong, the recently- appointed Director of Medical and Health Services, in which confirmation was given of much of the detail referred to in an earlier DHSS report, that of March 1976. During the address, the following brief outline of future development in both Government and private sectors was described, for the period 1977-82.
Government Sector :
Princess Margaret Hospital : Psychiatric wing of 1,300 beds
East Kowloon
West New Territories
Sha Tin Hospital (see Appendix 'D')
Government-Assisted Sector :
Tung Wah Group
Due for completion by 1980
Health Centre of 200 beds Due for completion by 1980
Health Centre of 200 beds Due for completion by 1980
Building to commence in 1979 Schedule of accommodation now in preparation.
1,200 beds
Due for completion by 1982
Caritas Hospital
Clinical Pathology block to be provided at Kwong Wah Hospital.
Plus 40 orthopaedic beds
Due for completion by 1978
Extension of 600 beds to be built
Due for completion in 1978
Tuen Men Hospital
General and psychiatric hospital 1,200 beds
Due for completion by 1984
3.2 There was also mention of a 600-bed hospital projected for Hong Kong island but no location was given. It was assumed that this would be a Government- assisted hospital. Reference was also made, during the visit to the proposed Cardiac Centre to be provided at the Grantham Hospital.
4. FUTURE POLYCLINIC DEVELOPMENT
Information was given about the following polyclinics due to be constructed during the period 1977-82:
East Kowloon
: for residents in NE Kowloon and to meet the increasing
demands of Kun Tong, Wong Tai Sin, Sav Mau Ping,
Wang Tau Hon.
Stage I will be completed in 1977.
