The Constitution provides that any person who is taken into custody shall be brought before a judge within 24 hours.

Torture is non-existent in Denmark.

(iii) There is no slavery.

(iv) The Constitution states that "any person

shall be at liberty to publish his ideas, in print, in writing and in speech, subject to his being held responsible in a court of law".

(v) Judges are civil servants but, in accordance

with the Constitution, "the Administration of justice shall always remain independent of executive authority".

(vi) Trade unions are independent of Government

control, though subject to labour laws which lay down the procedures for strikes, and provide for penalties against those who strike in contravention of agreements negotiated between unions and employers.

(vii)

Danes are free to emigrate.
