Bert Turner has sent to us a copy of your letter to him dated 4th August.

My colleague Mr. Jack Davies spoke to Mr. Duffy in your office on 4th July.

We are currently in correspondence with Cambridge Inspector of Taxes, 1st District and are hopeful of establishing that Professor Turner's earnings abroad from mid 1976 to October 1977 are 100% clear of U.K. tax, because his employment is not that of a Crown Servant.

It seems to us that this is the kernel of the matter and we will be in touch with you again in early course.

Any information (regarding Bert's terms of reference, for instance) which you could provide in the meantime, would be greatly appreciated.
