See my letters to Stewart, llong Kong Desk, of 25th October (p.2, paras 1 & 2), and 15th December (p.2) Receipt covering 3 with BTC Hong Kong

Receipt for phone calls attached (C & W only gives receipts as returned copies of cables, and I do not yet have all these. These include some cables or phone calls to Sydney re my university or personal affairs, but most were to the UK in connection with the report (e.g. to FCO, Dr. Fosh re survey results, etc.) I put 2/3 as a minimum, since they are not detailed in the accounts.

Standard charges

Receipt attached

Copy of bank letter attached. I arranged for two Australian Commonwealth Scholars (doctoral) to undertake special studies in connection with the report, with grants of $A900 apiece through Sydney University plus official arrangements with Cathay Pacific for reduced airfares. The devaluation of the Australian dollar reduced their funds, however, and I was obliged to cable them sufficient from my own resources to stay and complete their reports. (There is no rule which would permit a retrospective of their Australian grants in compensation).

The Governo phoned me in Cambridge in January to ensure that I would return to Australia via Hong Kong for consultation. 17 is for consequential arrangements and is approximate. (My College does not give detailed accounts for Fellows' charges under this head, and I shall not get my overall personal account until October anyway). 18 is as in T. Duffy, F.C.O. letter of 8th October (appendix) : I cannot myself separate this item from my other personal payments for air fares.

Partial receipts attached (including two for books I found after completing the account)
