DESIGNATION OF "INTERNATIONAL" BOUNDARY BETWEEN HONG KONG AND CHINA ON MAPS OF UK ORIGIN,

68

1. Please see the attached letter from the Directorate of Military Survey, MOD.

2. My inclination is to accept the suggestion in paragraph 3c which would thus obviate the need for the designation "international boundary" to appear at all. I am not, how- ever, happy with the MOD's suggested description in paragraph 36.

I would be grateful for your suggestions.

3. In any case I suggest that we should ask that future maps should include the disclaimer agreed by the FCO which is given in the letter document 11).

4.

I attach a draft reply for your comments.

I would have thought that, unless there is specific forces in doing so, the best thing would have been for the military maps to adopt the same symbols, disclaimer etc, as the civil maps.
