To review existing levels of payments and criteria for eligibility with a view to extending the benefits available under these schemes.
To prepare a programme plan on preventive social work among youth.
To decide what services need to be provided or extended during the next ten years.
To prepare a programme plan on the provision of services for the elderly.
Present Position
Executive Council approved in principle extension of public assistance to able- bodied adults and to young persons aged 15 17 inclusive as household members and not independently in their own right.
An official from the U.K. Department of Health and Social Security is expected in April to assist in reviewing the existing schemes.
Work on the Programme Plan commenced in early September 1976.
Public comments on the Green Paper are being considered.
Work commenced in November 1976.
Time-table
For implementation on 1.4.77.
To be decided when the review is completed.
White Paper to be published in late 1977.
A draft White Paper will be put to the Executive Council.
