Capital Punishment in Dependent Territories

PS. PS/LEROBERTS PS/PUS MR. CORTAZZI MR. STARLRY L. ADvEens

PARL. UNIT.

In his letter of 1st August, conveying the Prime Minister's views on DOP(77) 19, John Meadway said that the Prime Minister had asked

John Hunt to make arrangements for the matter to be considered by

officials in the Departments principally concerned during the Recess.

I have been asked to organise this. I propose to hold a | preliminary meeting at 3 pm on Thursday, 4th August. I should be

grateful if you and the others to whom this letter is copied,

would kindly let me know who will be your Department's representative (or representatives) at this meeting.

I am sending copies of this letter to Ian Maxwell (Lord Chancellor's Office), Bob Morris (Home Office) and Michael de Winton (Attorney

General's Office).
