1. I would guess that Mr McEntee's letter of 23 June, if it exists, will have enclosed a copy of the Court of Appeal's judgement in the Jones' case (paragraph 2 of Mr McEntee's letter of 17 June refers). Be that as it may, I think we can assume that Mr McEntee will let us know as soon as his Prerogative of Mercy Committee have met to consider the case. He knows from his various meetings with Mr Stewart while on leave that we are keen to be kept fully informed at all stages: his letters of 17 and 28 June and his telegram PERSONAL no 59 of 23 June show that he is fully aware of this. If we are to telegraph Mr McEntee, I think the burden of our message should be to ask him when he expects the Prerogative of Mercy Committee to meet. His telegram PERSONAL no 59 was silent on this point. I have amended the draft telegram accordingly.
