information about new projects they were undertaking or to look first to British suppliers as a source of supply. But the Working Group have agreed that it would be appropriate for the Hong Kong representative of the Confederation of British Industries to do so. He will
start with the General Chamber of Commerce. He is to
report on the reaction of the Chamber to the working Group which will then decide whether he should approach the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and perhaps the
Chinese Manufacturers Association.
The Working Group considers the Confederation of British
Industries would be advised not to limit its
representation in Hong Kong to the Director of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in a part time capacity. It suggests the C.B.I. might wish to consider setting up its own office in Hong Kong, particularly to look
after the interests of medium sized to small British
firms. The Senior British Trade Commissioner will be
putting this proposition to the C.B.I.
Market surveys
In addition to the surveys the British Trade Commission is conducting on the Hong Kong market for certain products, the Trade Development Council will extend its market surveys on Hong Kong exports into the requirements of Hong Kong industries to enable them to meet demand
overseas. The Trade Development Council will liaise with the British Trade Commission on any requirements for capital goods and raw materials that might be of interest to British suppliers.
Inward missions to Britain
The Working Group accept that sending groups of Hong Kong industrialists to Britain to visit factories there
