It is very sensible of you to stop in Bangkok en route I suspect that many of the initial revulsions to Hong Kong are caused by flying direct from the United Kingdom on British Airways, which is almost always 20 hours late. Richard Davies of the Trade, Commission has kindly agreed to take Hoare in tow in Macau and there should therefore be no problem about our meeting you at the airport off SQ 632 - in fact, with Concorde there, it will be a popular demand journey for the children. If by any chance we do not connect (which sometimes happens if the flight is said to be late, but arrives early), please take a taxi to our home (Flat 8A, 8th Floor, Fairlane Towers, 7B Bowen Road, Mid-levels, Hong Kong Island, Telephone 5-249599). The cost is about HK$35.

I am in the process of encouraging Protocol Department to give you an interesting programme, but I should warn you that the second week is going to be a little difficult, since we are having a 3-day: Colony-wide exercise which will tie up an awful lot of the bureaucracy during that period. But Protocol will do their best to make some alternative arrangements and I am sure you will find plenty to do outside Government. We can discuss in further detail when you arrive. I have not fixed anything for the weekend 19/20 November and if you wanted to go off on the Friday or Saturday afternoons (there are Garuda flights to Jakarta on both days) please feel free to do so. Again this also can be fixed when you arrive.
