Thank you for your letter of 6 June about the resettlement of Vietnamese refugees.
As Roy Hattersley said in his letter of 2 June, the admittance of Vietnamese refugees into the United Kingdom is the concern of the Home Secretary who has made clear the criteria for their admission.

The/High Commissioner for Refugees has not yet issued a formal appeal to countries to help with the process of individual resettlement. He has however now informed governments that his assessment is still underway but in the meantime he has appealed for funds to help with the care and maintenance of Vietnamese Refugees during their tempor asylum and for the transportation costs for voluntary repatriation and resettlement. appeal is currently being considered by the Minister of Overseas Development. As you are aware Mrs Hart allocated $1 million for relief work on behalf of Vietnamese refugees; £ million of this amount is still available.
