involved in the collision heard a bang though he could not say that it was a gun shot. Shortly afterwards, the police officers alighted from the vehicle. One of the fleeing men threw away a plastic bag containing a knife. The men continued to run, with
No. 4 at the rear. Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 crossed Tonkin Street
by leaping over the central railing and at gun-point seized a car travelling along the other carriageway in the opposite direction to that in which they had been running. Nos. 2, 5 and 7 dispersed at this point.

The car was driven along Tonkin Street and into
Cheung Sha Wan Road. Meanwhile, another Police vehicle was coming along Cheung Sha Wan Road. It was under the command of the murdered Sergeant. The owner of the car which had just been seized stopped the Police vehicle and the Sergeant and his men gave chase. The seized car was forced by pedestrians and traffic generally to stop near the junction of Fuk Wing Street and Pei Ho Street and Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 abandoned it. Nos. 1 and 3 turned into Pei Ho Street and ran towards Tai Po
Road. The Police vehicle was stopped behind the abandoned car and the police officers got out and gave chase after Nos. 1 and 3. One of the officers chased after No. 1. The deceased ran with the officer along the middle of the road, whilst No. 1 was running ahead on the footpath to the left. The officer
said that he saw No. 1 draw a revolver from his waist, aim at him and fire a number of shots. He took cover near the door of
a parked vehicle and at the same time called on the deceased to take cover. He then went to the rear of the vehicle, drew his revolver and from there went to the footpath and took cover behind a column. He then went towards Tai Po Road using columns for cover but did not see No. 1 again. As he went along, he met another of the police officers coming back from the direction of Tai Po Road, and they both returned along the street and found the deceased, who was being helped by some colleagues.

The other officer had also been chasing after No. 1. He also saw No. 1 draw a gun and aim at him as though to shoot. He took cover and heard 2 or 3 shots. He drew his own revolver and went towards Tai Po Road. At the junction, he saw a yellow car moving off, with No. 1 sitting beside the driver. He fired
