from the door and one at least ran into LUI. He then felt

himself being stabbed on his thigh. He became terrified and ran back along the lane and from there-to Reclamation Street where he hid in the lorry. There seems little doubt that his departure in evidence from his earlier answers to the Police was in an attempt to account for the trail of blood from near the James Bond Restaurant to the lorry, of which he had become aware. In evidence, he said that he lost consciousness after he had been found in the lorry and had asked to be sent to hospital. He did not remember being searched and denied that he had the paper sheath on him. He also said in evidence that some $80 had been stolen from him.

ANOTHER VERSION.

9.

In his petition to the Governor, LUI gives yet another version of these events. He claims that a friend of his asked

him to go to the James Bond Restaurant to recover some money from the deceased. LUI says that he did not know the deceased. At the restaurant, the deceased and his friend had a quarrel and then began to fight. While trying to separate them, LUI says that he was stabbed by his friend, who then ran away. LUI also left and went to the lorry. He claims that he did not give this "true" version because he was frightened.

(c)

LUI was convicted on a re-trial, having been acquitted on an earlier trial because the jury was not unanimous. There is no indication of LUI's motive. Nothing was

stolen from the restaurant.

There is no evidence as to the course which events

in the restaurant between LUI and the deceased took.
