PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION: CORRUPTION IN HONG KONG
1. Mr Victor Goodhew MP (Conservative, St Albans) has put down
a question for oral answer on 6 August, to ask the Secretary of State if he will give statistics to illustrate the impact of the operations department of the Independent Commission Against Corruption in Hong Kong •
15 2. We have consulted the Governor of Hong Kong and he has provided Flag the statistics asked for by Mr Goodhew (Hong Kong tel no 742). In
putting down this Question Mr Goodhew is presumably trying to be helpful to Hong Kong by providing opportunity for them to show that the ICAC has made a good start in their efforts to combat corruption in the Colony. The statistics provided by Hong Kong are certainly encouraging.
3. Mr Goodhew has also put down two written Questions for answer on 6 August concerning corruption in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Anglo/Hong Kong Parliamentary Group. As far as we know he has not recently visited Hong Kong.
4. I submit a draft reply, a Background Note and Notes for Supplementaries.
