I have subsequently seen Governors telegrams and PS/S of S

338) signal of 302130Z Oct to Minister.

2. Have discussed with CAS. We have no objection in

principle to surrender of RAF Kai Tak provided that satisfactory

arrangements are made within Kai Tak airport for handling and

support of visiting RAF aircraft and for accommodation of RAF

helicopter force and as long as it is operational crews of

surveillance radar on Tai Mo Shan.

3. I see no objection to your proposal to reprovide accommodation

now used in Victoria barracks in. HMS TAMAR provided that you

consider the timescales mentioned in para one of Governor's

telegram of 3011202 Oct are realistic and that Hong Kong

Government accept full responsibility for costs of reprovision

of accommodation both there and at Sek Kong to standards acceptable

to MOD.

No doubt these aspects will be covered by the proposed joint

working party.
