some airborne training can be dispensed with.

As a consequence, the Argosy will no longer be

required in the flying training role.

20. The Jaguar Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), formed at

Lossiemouth in July 1974 from the nucleus of the Jaguar Conversion

Team, now trains pilots for the operational squadrons and will

shortly begin post-graduate courses for Weapons Instructors and

Instrument Rating Examiners.

21. The transfer of Phantom squadrons to the air defence role

enabled the Lightning OCU to be closed on 30 September 1974; the

Phantom OCU has largely converted from ground attack to air defence

training.

JOINT TRAINING

Tri-Service Training

22. The Ministry of Defence favours joint training where it is

practicable and economical. In some areas, such as Automatic Data

Processing (ADP), Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare, and

Intelligence, training is carried out jointly. The scope for its

wider application is limited, not the least because of the need to

employ existing training resources to the maximum capacity and to

avoid capital expenditure on new facilities. However, this is a

complex and difficult field and it is intended to secure the

is hoped to make an announcement shortly.. The enquiry
