Qualifying Conditions

12 months residence if the mother and child were not born in Australia, and do not intend to remain there per- manently. If the father is not a British subject benefit may be paid if the mother is a British subject, the child was born in Australia and is likely to reside there permanently.

Citizenship, residence in Japan, pre- vious year's income below the pre- scribed level, and 3 or more children up to compulsory school age living with one or more parents or a person who maintains them.

Residence during the last 12 months or intent to reside permanently, and child born in the country.

Present residence. Eligible children must be 1 year old but under age 5 (12 if mother is unmarried).

VIET-NAM (South)

Present coverage.

Benefit Rate or Amount

50c. a week for first child under age 16, $1.50 for two, $3.50 for 3, $5.75 for 4, 33.25 for 5, $11.00 for 6, with higher rate for 7 or more children. For students aged between 16 and 21 the weekly rate is $1.50 per week.

3000 yen per month times the number of eligible children.

$3.00 a week for first and each other child under age 16 or 18 if a student or invalid.

4 roubles a month for 4th child, rising progressively to 15 roubles for 11th and additional child (rank based on all living children rather than those under age 5). Higher rates for unmarried mothers.

6% of 'basic wage' of wage category of the person protec- ted for the first five children; 3% for the 6th and each additional child under age 16, or 18 if an apprentice, or 21 if a student, disabled, or a female child caring for 4 or more children (or 2 if the wife is disabled or absent) 15% for wife. Allowances reduced proportionately if the worker is not full-time (26 days a month).
