Unemployment Benefits in Australia, Japan and New Zealand

Qualifying Period

1 year of residence immediately before un- employment, or intent to reside.

6 months insurance during the last 12 months.

NEW ZEALAND

12 months of residence

Eligibility for Benefit

Capable and willing to undertake suitable work, steps taken to obtain work, and registered as unemployed.

Able and willing to work registered with the pub- lic employment security office and reporting every 2 weeks.

Able and willing to work seeking work, and registered at the employ- ment exchange.

Rates of Amounts of Benefits

Subject to means up to $26.00 a week (sing- le) and $45.50 (married) with $5.00 for each child under 16 or dependant full-time student over 16. Payable after 7-day wait- ing period, to be served only once in any period of 13 weeks.

60% of earnings with a minimum of 650 yen per day and maximum of 2860 yen. Dependants supplements. Benefit is payable after a 7-day waiting period for various maximum periods related to the duration of insur- ance and other factors.

Subject to means, up to $21.00 a week for single adult or $35.00 if married, after a waiting period of 7 days. Dependants supplements.
