The main courts of justice in Hong Kong are:
the Magistrate Court;
(b) the District Court - similar to a Country Court
soon to be known as the High
in U.K. but with crevivid

the Supreme Court -
(a) the Full Court
Court of Justice;
soon to be known as the Court of
Appeal.
In addition, there is a Coroner's Court, a Land
Tribunal, Labour Tribunal, Tenancy Tribunal and there soon
vill be established a Small Claims Tribunal. The Labour
Tribunal and Small Claims Tribunal offer a speedy form of
'simple justice'. Legal representation is not permitted
legally qualitico bresident and proceedings are conducted by a judicial officer in
Chinese.
Magistrates exercise criminal jurisdiction over

indictable offences, may not exceed two years for any one

The District Court, comprising a Judge without
a jury, tries criminal cases transferred from the magistrates
by the Athenen Court

matter is less than $20,000. A District Court judge may

The Supreme Court's civil jurisdiction is
