Mr Harrison
DEFENCE AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS SUB-COMMITTEE
1.
We spoke about your minute of 19 May.
2. The last four subjects in the list in Mr Millar's
26/0 letter of 14 May to Mr Benham are not appropriate to
the Sub-Committee's responsibilities. Rather than putting it so bluntly to Mr Millar, I suggest that we take a more positive line and say that I would be glad to brief them as fully as they would like on these points which would, of course, fill in the background before they set out for Hong Kong. We would, in any case, like to do this to avoid their putting a foot wrong while they are in Hong Kong.
3.
The question of gathering intelligence in Hong Kong is, of course, for PUSD. On the not unreasonable assumption that PUSD will oppose the inclusion of this subject, I would just like to say that HKIOD would fully support PUSD on this point.
