Thank you for your letter of 17 September about the forthcoming visit by the Defence and External Affairs Sub-Commi of the Select Committee on Expenditure to Hong kong,.

This Department is coordinating the briefing, for bail Sub-Committee before they start their tour and, amongst other subjects, we have been asked to brief them on the contributi Hong Kong to the British economy. I do not therefore think læt it will be necessary for you to cover this ground again in Hong Kong. We will be briefing the Sub-Committee orally but will forward to you our draft speaking notes so that you may have an opportuni to comment on them.
