we are more fortunate as far as fire

hazards are concerned, in spite of

that fact that Hong Kong is one third

smaller in area, (actually much much

smaller as we have so much hilly

areas not suitable for most types of

buildings) and our population density

is so high. (Area: London 610

square miles; population 7.17 million.

Hong Kong 404 square miles* popu-

lation 4.30 million.)

Touching the financial

side it may be interesting to compare

the revenue expenditure of the fire

services in the Greater London

Council with the revenue expenditure

in Hong Kong. The comparison is

produced in the Appendices A, B, C & D.

The Chairman of the Urban Council and the Chairman of the Finance Select Committee

of the Urban Council always keep a close watch on expenditure and revenue.
