Question:
impose a system on another. And it is entirely for you,
as a community, to evolve the nature, the speed of any
change which is desirable. Here again we stand in a
position, and very ready, to be consulted as friends
always do.
Does it mean that if there were genuine movement here for
an elected Legislative Council or an expanded Legislative
Council, your Government would in fact accept this?
Minister: Indeed, we would pay every attention to it
We have
always responded by consultation and negotiation to a
genuine consensus in favour of proceeding in that way. We
have never tried to impose anything prematurely on anybody.
