So long as the inaccuracies are minor or result from impre- cision of presentation (as those in respect of Hong Kông seem, in the main, to be) I should not have thought that they detract from the substance of the report and I doubt if it is necessary to press for their correction. We shall have to see what the reactions of other countries are when we get to Geneva. Your bringing these points to my attention has, however, been most useful, since it will enable me to have a word with the Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee beforehand so that he can consider the proper line to take

The list of officials was added to the report by the Secretariat in Geneva after we had dispersed from Singapoy I say this to shuffle out of any responsibility for the error made in referring to Chris Dawson and in the hope that he will speak to me again when we next meet.

Turning to your letter of 7 November I can report that I have discussed with scientists at our Police Scientific Development Branch the possibility of research into means of detecting heroin laboratories. They told me that at the International Conference on the use of science and technology in this field, which was held in Paris last October, the Americans had not been very sanguine about the work that they were doing. However our people are beginning some exploratory work which may have bearing upon your problems, they are broadly aware of what is required by the situation in Hong Kong, and will keep this in mind during their work. "hen the preliminarynstages are completed, I have arranged to talk to then again and we shall then consider whether and how we might be of more direct help to you. In brief, your problems have not been overlooked.
