You very kindly said that you would intervene with the Hong Kong Government Office on behalf of a lady whom I know slightly, who has a spot of difficulty with the Hong Kong immigration authorities.
2.
Her name is Mrs Victoria Taylor (London telephone 485 6943). She is on a 3-week visit to London from Hong Kong, where her husband, Mr Jonathan Taylor (telephone Hong Kong side 256 008) is working on, I think, a 3-year contract. She has two children and travelled with the elder one, leaving the younger, Lucinda (born 11 October 1972), in Hong Kong with her husband. The difficulty arose from the fact that both her children are entered on her British passport (No. 589342), and when she left Hong Kong airport the immigration authorities queried the fact that she was leaving Hong Kong with only one of the two children entered in the passport.
There is a further problem in that the immigration stamp entered in her passport by the Hong Kong authorities on 30 September 1973 states that the holders are permitted to remain in Hong Kong until 30 March 1974. This is one week before she and her elder child are due to return (on 5 April). She is worried by the fact that Lucinda is now in Hong Kong with no passport, and from 30 March will be there with no permit to stay either. She therefore got in touch with me to see whether there was anything which the FCO could do.
3. I said that the best course seemed to be for her husband to apply to the Hong Kong immigration authorities for an extension of permit for Lucinda to remain in Hong Kong after 30 March; I was sure that the Hong Kong authorities would not do anything absurd about the child. There remains, however, the point that the small girl has no documentation; and I should be grateful for anything which you and the Hong Kong Government Office are able to do to smooth things over.
All four Taylors have UK citizenship.
