A MOVEMENT TO FIGHT PERSECUTION AND PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS

th

15 August, 1974

Excellency,

(281)

The Research Department of Amnesty International has compiled

informations from several newspapers among them The Times,

The Guardian, China Mail, and Hong Kong Standard, according to which a total of 118 South Vietnamese were deported from Hong Kong to Saigon and are now detained in Con Son prison without trial. This deportation has taken place despite

assurances that the South Vietnamese would not "severely dealt

with".

We, the German group No. 349 of Amnesty International, request urgently that the British government might profit by the overall responsibility of the British government in matters connected with the administration of Hong Kong and might do everything

in its power to ensure that the assurances made by the Saigon

authorities are adhered to.

We request you to be engaged in the review of eventual humanitarian grounds which permit a remaining of these people in Hong Kong.

We request you to start investigations about the conditions under which the 118 South Vietnamese are detained and about the charges

on which they are being brought to trial.
