Single officers are eligible for half the rate for married officers: in both cases any customs duty payable is not accepted for purposes of the allowance.

(iii) On first appointment an officer may have personal effects transported

free from a warehouse in Hong Kong to his quarters by the Director of Government Supplies or by Departmental transport. He will however be required to repay any loading fees etc., incurred in withdrawing personal effects from a warehouse. The officer is advised therefore to consign his effects c/o The Director of Government Supplies, Hong Kong Government and to ensure that shipping agencies forward Bills of Lading direct to the Director of Government Supplies in advance of the arrival of the vessel carrying his baggage.

In no circumstances does Government meet claims for refund of personal flight insurance charges.

14. TRAVELLING EXPENSES IN OFFICER'S COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

(1)

Under Hong Kong Establishment Regulation 1420, an officer and his family (but see (iii) below) may also be paid expenses for travelling in his country of origin when an officer comes to Hong Kong on first appointment; or on transfer from another country via his country of origin; or on vacation leave; or when the officer leaves Hong Kong on retirement, invaliding, or on transfer to another country via his country of origin.
