An Act for making the Receiving of stolen Jewels, and Gold and Silver Plate, in the Cafe of Burglary and Highway Robbery, more penal.

HEREAS the Facility with which ftolen Jewels, and Gold and Silver Plate, are difpofed Preamble. of, is One principal Cause of the frequent Commiffsion of Burglaries and Highway Robbe- ries; and the prefent Laws against the receiving of ftolen Goods, are found infufficient to deter 'Perfons from that Practice: May it therefore please Your Majefty, that it may be enacted; and" be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That every Perfon, who from and after the First Day of June, One thoufand After 1 June, 1776, feven hundred and feventy, fhall buy or receive any stolen Jewel or Jewels, or any ftolen Goid or Perfons receiving Jeweir, Silver Plate, Watch or Watches, knowing the fame to have been stolen, fhall, in all Cafes where Gold or Silver Plate, «n fuch Jewel or Jewels, or Gold or Silver Plate, fhall have been feloniously stolen, accompanied with Watches, knowing them a burglary actually committed in the stealing the fame, or fhall have been feloniously taken by a to be folen, triable an Robbery on the Highway, Thall be triable as well before Conviction of the principal Felon in fuch ction of principal Fe- Felony and Burglary or Robbery, whether he shall be in or out of Cuftody, as after his Conviction: lons; and on Conviction. And if any Perfon, fo buying or receiving fuch Jewel or Jewels, or Gold or Silver Plate, fhall be to be transported for 14: convicted thereof, he thall be adjudged guilty of Felony, and be transported to some of His Ma- Years. jelly's Plantations in America for the Space of Fourteen Years, according to the Laws in Force for Tranfportation of Felons.-

viving feveral Acts for preventing Abus in making Bricks and Tiles; and for indemnifying 'Juftices of the Peace, and others, who have acted under the faid Acts; and for indemnifying 'Perfons who have omitted to make and file Affidavits; and for allowing further Time for paying 'Duties omitted to be paid upon Contracts with Clerks and Apprentices; for making forth Dupli- 'cates of Exchequer Bills, Lottery Tickets, Certificates, Receipts, Annuity Orders, and other Or- ' 'ders, loft, burnt, or deftroyed; and for repaying to fofeph Glover and John Gill the Duty by them paid on a Cargo of Wheat, and for allowing the fame to be landed for Home Consumption; and

'for preventing Parish Poor being paid in bafe or counterfeit Coin;' as relates to Bricks and Tiles, as relate to Bricks and thich were to have Continuance to the End of this Seffion of Parliament, fhall be, and the fame Tiles, reby further continued from the Expiration thereof, to the Twenty-ninth Day of September, One continued to 29 Joufand feven hundred and feventy-three, and 'from thence to the End of the then next Seffion of 'arliament..
