The Prisoner, LAI Fai @ LAI Mun Fai, was born in Canton, China. He came to Hong Kong with his parents at the age of about 5 and since then he stayed here as resident.
He was brought up in a large and poor family. As the eldest child in the family he came out to work at the age of about 14. Before he cohabited with his common-law wife some 6 years ago he had been a helping hand to the family and was considered an obedient son.
Some 2 years ago for unknown reason his wife left home leaving him behind. Since then there was no news about her whereabouts. His son is now under the care of his parents.
He continued to live outside after his wife had left. He said he was living mostly at the place of work or with friends. He admitted that he gave little support to the family during the past years.
