DMO believes that clarification of one point in CBF's paper is necessary. Although he does not argue this in the paper, CBF considers that it is more important in an IS situation to have engineers immediately available in preference to the armoured recce squadron. He therefore arrives at his 5 major units by the inclusion of the second field squadron Gurkha Engineers. Only one field squadron is included in the calculation of the present 63 level so it is entirely a matter of presentation as to whether the reduced level should be expressed as 51 (DSWP) or 54 (CBF) units. Presumably the FCO will advise on the desirable form of presentation.
