To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what suggestions have been put to the Hong Kong Government concerning Hong Kong's contribution towards the costs of the Hong Kong garrison during his review of defence expenditure.

ANSWER

There will be discussions about the Garrison with the Hong Kong

Government at an appropriate stage in the Defence Review, but no

suggestions have yet been put to them on financial or other aspects.
