A male officer appointed on agreement for a period of two-and-a-half years or more is required to contribute at the same rate, unless he informs the Accountant General in writing within 3 months of the date of assumption of duty (i.e. the date of arrival in Hong Kong) that he does not desire to contribute.
27. FURTHER EMPLOYMENT (officers on agreement only)
At least nine months prior to the completion of the tour(s) of service under this agreement the person engaged shall be given notice in writing by the Government as to whether it is desired to retain his services and, if so, he will be offered further employment, subject to satisfactory completion of current agreement.
28. EDUCATIONOF CHILDREN IN HONG KONG
Officers who accept appointment and wish to seek admission for their children to Government English speaking schools are advised to complete the enclosed forms and to send them direct to the Director of Education, Lee Gardens, 3rd and 4th floors, Hysan Avenue, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, Children may be registered for admission to junior school when 41 years old; entry is at approximately 5 years of age. The normal age of entry to secondary schools is 11 years of age. Officers educating their children locally in Government and aided schools will be eligible to receive allowances from January 1973. The fees for primary schools will be $1,150 p.a. from January 1973 and the allowance will then be limited to $690. The fees for secondary schools will be 32,050 p.a. from January 1973 and the allowance will then be limited to $990. No allowances are payable in respect of private schools unless there are not enough places in the public sector.
29. SECONDARY EDUCATION OF CHILDRIN OVERSEAS
(i)
Officers whose children are receiving secondary education in their country of origin may claim education allowances subject to certain conditions.
A resume of the regulations governing the grant of allowances
is issued on request.
(ii) Some schools in England offer certain facilities, such
as scholarships or reduced fees or bursaries, for the children of Overseas Civil Servants. A list of these schools is given in a booklet entitled "Education in the United Kingdom of children of officers serving overseas". A copy of this booklet, which also contains notes on the educational system in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, together with other connected and useful information, may (if not already enclosed with this Memorandum) be obtained from the Ministry of Overseas Development on request.
30. GENERAL INFORMATION
The main Staff Association for overseas officers appointed for service with the Hong Kong Government is the Association of European Civil Servants, Room G. 6, Main Wing, Central Government Offices, Hong Kong.
31. CHANGES IN CONDITIONS
Notwithstanding anything said in the foregoing Sections, the Hong Kong Government reserves the right to alter the terms and conditions of service as may become necessary from time, to time.
