(for the purpose of this sub-paragraph a return passage means in the case of a child beginning education the last outward passage to Hong Kong and the single passage to the country to which the child is being sent to school. In the case of a child ending full-time education a return passage means the passage to Hong Kong from school and the passage provided for the child back to the officer's country of origin on satisfactory completion of the officer's tour).

If the number of units credited to an officer's passage account under these rules is insufficient to cover a passage, such passage may be provided but the officer will be required to pay a prop- ortional part of the cost. (For example, if an officer's credit balance is 1 unit but the passage is charged at the 2 unit rate, because the child is over 19, he will be required to pay half of the cost).

(d) General Rules for School Passages

The

School passages will be subject to the following rules: (1) a school passage must be taken at the cheapest fare

available on a scheduled flight from the country where the child is being educated to enable the child to visit his parent(s) in Hong Kong. visit must cover the major part of the Easter, Summer or Christmas holidays or the equivalent in the country where the child is being educated; to qualify for a school passage a child must be: (i) undergoing full-time education outside Hong Kong; (ii) unmarried and under the age of 21 at the

beginning of the outward portion of the school passage;

(2)

(iii) an individual child will not be permitted to take more than 4 school passages per tour of 30 months if the child is under 19 nor more than 2 in any period of 12 months; and 2 per tour between his/her 19th and 21st birthdays, nor more than one in any period of 12 months, starting from the beginning of the officer's tour of the child's 19th birthday, whichever is the later. School passage benefits cannot be carried forward from one tour to another;
