RECEIVED I REGISTRY M.....

Hong Kong have two officials, of Minister and Counsellor rank respectively, stationed in Brussels attached to the British Embassy. Their job is to represent Hong Kong's commercial interests with the European Communities and with the member states thereof, both in Brussels and in the capitals of member states.
2.
To assist in the latter aim, Hong Kong have suggested that their officials' appointments should be notified in the capital of each EEC member state, so that they appear on the Diplomatic List there, but AS resident in Brussels. A slight change of title is also suggested. I attach a copy of the letter from Hong Kong setting out their position in more detail.
3.
Although the point is not covered in the letter, I think it can be taken for granted that Hong Kong are not suggesting that their officials should appear on the London Diplomatic List. That apart, have you any objection to what is proposed in Mr Jones's letter?

No objection from POD's point of view, but I think each Embassy ought to be asked first, rather than instructed, Las a matter of foun. (I'm not sure how far it will "assist.... the aim", especially in Paris! _ but this is not my business!)
