Comments/Suggestions

Preference for a 20 cent coin and to

work in multiples of 10 cents.

(i) Utilizes automatic coin machines.

(ii) In favour of 20 and 30 cent coins.

(iii) 5 cent coin obsolete.

(iv) $1 coin too large, resulting in collection

and storage problems.

(v) $5 coin, if introduced, should be smaller

than the present $1 coin.

(1) Proposing to introduce automatic ticket

vending machines.

(ii) In favour of 25 cent and $2 coins. (iii) In future, fares may be rounded off to

the nearest 50 cents and hence half fares

would result in 5 cents.

(i) Handle over 1 million coins a day and

estimate this will be 2.5 million by 1975. (ii) Planning to install new automatic coin.

collection and extraction equipment

(estimated cost $7 million), which

requires the use of round and fairly

uniform coins.

(iii) Favour 20 and $2 coins; suggest

demonetization of 56 piece; $5 coin

no advantage to Company.

(iv) Suggested sizes: 20 piece half-way

between present 10 and 50% pieces, $2

piece half-way between present 50% and

$1 pieces.

(v) Anxious for early decision so that collection

equipment requirements can be finalized.
