PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION TO THE PRIME MINISTER BY MR ROBERT PARRY MP
-4/2
B C
1.
Mr Parry has tabled a written Parliamentary Question for answer on Thursday 4 April asking if the Prime Minister has any plans to pay an official visit to Hong Kong.
2. FED and PCD say they know of no plans for the Prime Minister to visit Hong Kong. I have flagged on the attached FED file a letter from No. 10 saying that they see no prospect of the Prime Minister paying an official visit to China for some considerable time. I think we can take it from this that the Prime Minister will not be visiting Hong Kong in the foreseeable future.
3. I accordingly attach a draft reply which
has been cleared with the Governor. I also attach a brief Background Note on the cancellation of the proposed visit by Mr Heath in January of this year.
