1.
Thank you for your letter of 15 January about your visit to London in June. Your proposed absence is formally agreed.
2.
I have had a word with the relevant people in the Office who welcome the idea of a fairly early chance to talk, independent of your leave. We have had changes since you were last here, and you have had problems. I think we need to get on net once again and that the meetings you propose will do it.
3.
The 17 20 June will be a busy period for the Secretary of State but we have put down a marker for you in his diary. Mr Blaker also looks forward to seeing you. In addition I have had a word with Tom Bridges who thinks that the Prime Minister would welcome the opportunity of a talk, whether or not his visit to Hong Kong has happened by then. But I have undertaken to consult Tom again nearer the time. Pat Kelly stands ready to organise things for you as she did last time (my impression is that she does it very well). If you would like us to arrange the calls outside the Office, such as the Treasury, DTI, the City or Parliament no doubt you will let me know. Perhaps in due course you will let me know your flight details?
