PROPOSED VISIT TO HONG KONG BY SIR HARWOOD HARRISON, CHAIRMAN OF THE DEFENCE AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS SUB-COMMITTEE
1.
Mr Benning (Ministry of Defence) telephoned to let us know that he has been told by the Committee Clerk that Sir Harwood Harrison will be attending the IPU Conference in Tokyo in October, and plans to stop at Hong Kong on his way to Tokyo.
2.
and
While in Hong Kong Sir Harwood Harrison hopes to be able to stay with the C-in-C: to visit military installations and Service establishments. On present plans he will arrive in Hong Kong at 15.15 hrs. on Sunday 29 September, and leave for Tokyo at 16.00 hrs. on Tuesday 1 October.
3.
Mr Benning proposes, if we agree, to handle this visit to Hong Kong on the MOD network since Sir Harwood Harrison is apparently only concerned with things military (MOD will prepare briefs
-
on accommodation, staffing, and so on).
4.
I agreed, and promised to let our Hong Kong Department know about the proposed visit.
Mr Benning will send us a copy of the Clerk's letter, and will keep in touch with us about arrangements for the visit.
